Review: LG Flatron M1910A - LCD TV/Monitor

If I were to judge the LG Flatron M1910A solely on its appearance, then it would make it onto our list of favourite flat panel displays. The design is certainly one of the more unique in the 19in class and a number of friends have already commented on how good it will look in their homes. Sadly I had to explain it was mine during the testing period and will be returned to LG once the review is completed.

What makes the M1910A really stand out is the two-tone black and white finish, the chrome stand, and the curvaceous chassis. The black bezel, although not the narrowest, is attractively raised from the white chassis giving it an almost "floating" look. Below this the chassis extends downwards into a sweeping curve and it's here you'll find one of the M1910A's strengths - its speakers.

Taiwan to Command 31.1% of Global LCD TV Supply in 2006

The global share of Taiwan-made liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs-including those produced on both an own-brand and on an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) basis-is expected to further grow to 31% this year, making the island a global production base for the products, according to the Market Intelligence Center (MIC) of the Institute for Information Industry.

In conjunction with the expanding orders from major Japanese brands such as Sony, Sharp, and Matsushita (Panasonic) for LCD TVs with local contract suppliers, MIC said, the demand for LCD TV panels is also expected to bring lucrative business opportunities to local large-sized thin film transistor (TFT)-LCD panel manufacturers.

North America market: 40-inch LCD TV segment making more of a mark than 37-inch segment

Sales of 40-inch LCD TVs in North America were better than expected during the year-end holiday season, with related shipments beating out those for the 37-inch segment, according to a survey conducted by DisplaySearch.

Sony's 40-inch Bravia LCD TV (KDLV40XBR1) was the fourth best selling LCD TV model on the market in terms of sales volume, while one of Samsung Electronics' 40-inch models ranked sixteenth at the end of 2005 (the 47th-51st week of 2005), the research firm pointed out.

The Bravia LCD TV hit the market in late September, and in October was the top-selling model in the US market, according to Pacific Media Associates (PMA).

Samsung Electronics and Sony are the only two panel makers able to currently supply 40-inch panels and they have been pushing the 40-inch panel segment by aggressively expanding capacity and reducing prices. The two companies aim to set the 40-inch segment as the mainstream standard, compared with the 42-inch segment.

New Schaub Lorenz 42 inch LCD television challenges plasma head on

The release of the Schaub Lorenz VMD 4200P LCD television signals a watershed period in the evolution of Australia’s flat panel TV market. For some years now, plasma has had a virtual monopoly on this particular screen size and in that time the 42 inch screen size has become so popular that it is now where many people start when considering the purchase of a flat panel TV.

The arrival of the VMD 4200P, along with similarly affordable 42 inch/106cm LCD televisions, heralds the beginning of a new era. From now on, consumers at this screen size will be faced with a choice of technologies. At the low end of the scale will be 480 line plasma screens, offering lower prices but also a lower resolution specification less than ideal for the demands of tomorrow’s media. At the top end of the scale will be high definition capable LCD and comparably priced plasma.

Strong demand for LCD TVs pressures Sharp to boost ops

THE growing preference by Malaysians for liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions over plasma TVs has put Sharp-Roxy Sales & Service Co (M) Sdn Bhd under pressure to boost its supply.

The strong demand for the company's LCD TVs has created a strain on Sharp-Roxy's capability to supply the high-definition display units.

Managing director Fumihiro Irie yesterday apologised for the discomfort and said Sharp Corp Japan is beefing up its output to overcome the problem.

He said the company had anticipated world demand for LCD sets to stand at 15 million units in 2005, but the appetite for such sets worked out to be 20 million units.

"We are expanding our production. We expect supply to catch up with demand in February," he told reporters after the launch of Sharp's largest LCD TV set, the 65-inch Sharp AQUOS.
